My bio

Other than a harried cook and generally food-obsessed individual, this is who I am in my “other life”:

Eliza Wing is President and CEO of cleveland.com, Northeast Ohio’s premiere news and information website.

After graduating from the University of Michigan with High Honors in 1981 she lived and worked in New York City as an editor at Rolling Stone and then New York Woman. She also wrote for several popular magazines including Rolling Stone, New York Woman, Self, Redbook, Working Woman, and Musician among others.

In 1994, Wing moved to Bay Village and a year later, began working as editorial director of the Internet’s first bookstore, Books.com.  She then joined Plain Dealer New Media in 1996.

When she was hired, Wing began to work on the development of a news and information site for Cleveland. At that time, the Internet was in its formative stages; there were very few existing models and Wing, as editor-in-chief, was able to create “Cleveland Live” from the ground up. The site launched in June of 1996. Soon after, Plain Dealer New Media’s central mission shifted to focus directly on building and maintaining Cleveland Live. The company’s name changed to Cleveland Live, Inc. and it was incorporated separately from The Plain Dealer (although the companies remained affiliated.) Wing was named President and CEO in 1997.

In 2001 the site evolved into what is today called CLEVELAND.COM. cleveland.com has become this region’s most extensive and trafficked web site with media alliances that include The Plain Dealer, Sun Newspapers, WKYC-TV3, WTAM 1100, and more. The site continues to follow its original mission to bring daily news and information to Greater Clevelanders. Under Wing’s direction, the site has grown from a little over 9,000 page views a week to reaching 998,000 unique users a month. Staff (full and part time) has grown from 3 to over 40. Revenue goals have been exceeded yearly.

Wing is on various boards in the area including , United Way, the Greater Cleveland Sports Commission and The Center for Families and Children, The U.S. Bank Advisory Board, Birchwood School. She is past president of The New Media Federation of the Newspaper Association of America. She is also a member of In Counsel With Women and of the 2001 Leadership Cleveland class. In 2007, Wing was named on of Northern Ohio Live’s Rainmakers.
She currently resides in Bay Village with her husband, Dennis Anderson and her two children, Arthur Henke (18) and Christopher Henke (13).
